FencR Speaks Canadian: Bill Your Club in CAD
Canadian clubs can now run their billing in Canadian dollars. Set your club's billing currency once in Club Settings, and every new plan, invoice, product, and camp rate is created in CAD, charged in CAD, and paid out in CAD to your Canadian bank account through your own Stripe account, with no currency conversion eating into your dues. New clubs with a Canadian address start in CAD automatically. Free for every club, on both sides of the border.
Until now, a Canadian club on FencR billed its members in US dollars. That worked, but it worked the way a shoe on the wrong foot works. Every payment crossed a currency boundary, members saw dues in a foreign currency, and conversion costs quietly shaved a slice off every single charge.
That is over. FencR now supports billing in Canadian dollars, club-wide, end to end.
One setting, set once
In Club Settings, under Getting paid, there is a new Billing currency card. It shows the currency your members are charged in, USD or CAD, and switching is one confirmed click.
FencR meets you halfway:
- New clubs with a Canadian address start in CAD automatically. Create your club, enter your Canadian address in onboarding, and there is nothing to configure. Your first plan is a Canadian-dollar plan.
- Existing Canadian clubs get a nudge. If your club address is in Canada and you are still billing in USD, the card suggests the switch and explains why most Canadian clubs should take it.
Before anything changes, a confirmation dialog spells out exactly what the switch does, because a billing currency is not a setting to change by accident.
What changes, and what deliberately does not
Once your club bills in CAD, everything new is Canadian: new membership plans, manual invoices, tournament invoices, store products, and camp rates are all created and charged in Canadian dollars. Card payments land in your club's own Stripe account and pay out in CAD to your Canadian bank, with no conversion step anywhere in the chain.
Just as important is what the switch refuses to touch:
- Existing plans and invoices keep the currency they were created in. FencR never rewrites billing history, and Stripe prices are immutable on currency by design. A member mid-subscription is not silently re-denominated.
- The processing fee math is currency-aware. If your club passes the card processing fee to the payer, that gross-up is now calculated from a per-currency fee schedule, so a CAD invoice's processing fee is computed in CAD from day one.
The practical effect for members: dues that say what they cost. A $120 monthly plan is $120 Canadian on the invoice, $120 Canadian on the card statement, and $120 Canadian in your payout. No exchange rate surprises on either side.
Zelle is US-only, and FencR now enforces that honestly
Zelle is a payment network that only moves money between US bank accounts. It has never been able to serve a Canadian club, so rather than leave a dead option on screen, FencR now removes it everywhere the moment your club bills in CAD:
- The Zelle card in Getting paid explains that Zelle is US-only rather than offering a connection that cannot pay out.
- The invoice payment method picker and plan payment options no longer offer Zelle, so you cannot accidentally send a member an invoice with payment instructions they cannot use.
- The block is enforced on the server too, not just hidden in the interface.
Canadian clubs collect by card through Stripe, and cash and check can still be recorded manually on any invoice, the same as always. If your club already had Zelle connected and later switches to CAD, FencR tells you plainly that it is no longer offered on new invoices, instead of failing quietly.
Free on both sides of the border
There is no Canadian pricing tier because there is no pricing at all. FencR is completely free for clubs and members, in Canada exactly as in the United States: scheduling, plans and credits, invoicing, waivers, messaging, camps, the club store, and analytics, with no caps and no feature gates.
If your club is in Canada and already on FencR, open Club Settings, then Getting paid, and the Billing currency card is waiting. If you are not on FencR yet, creating a club takes about fifteen minutes, and your members' dues will finally be in the same dollars as their bank accounts.
